Background

I graduated from the University of Ulster in 2010 with a degree in Interactive Multimedia Design. While at Uni I spent a year on placement with the design studio Big Motive, where I was a fundamental part of their web team.

Upon finishing my degree I worked for INC, a local ad agency, before making the move to Whitenoise Studios to head up their web department.

After two years at Whitenoise I decided it was time for a change and in late 2012 started a new journey as a freelance web designer, providing a bespoke design and development service.

At the end of 2015 - after 3 years running a successful freelance business - I decided to change my focus to concentrate more on digital strategy, user experience and user interface design. I still design and build websites, but I've moved into more of a consultancy role where I'm better positioned to help businesses grow and make more money.

Experience

I've always been in a multidisciplinary role where design and development overlap, meaning I'm just as comfortable with code as I am with design. Traditionally there's a barrier between these roles, transcending it has enabled me to offer a unique and high quality service, while allowing me to grow my skillset in many areas.

I've worked with a wide variety of clients on a range of projects, from basic content managed sites to online stores and custom reservation and event systems.

With each project - in order to deliver the best possible solution - I've immersed myself in that business and culture. As a result I've gained valuable insight into many different industries, understanding how they work and how they make money. Each time I've learnt something new.

Freelancing has given me the opportunity to work much closer with my clients. It's enabled me to deliver a more personalised service, which in turn has helped form long-lasting relationships.

Mentality

I look after my clients. Most of my work comes from repeat business and referrals. I'm easy to get in contact with and check my email regularly outside of office hours. If there's a bug or issue with a site I've built, I fix it quickly and free of charge. I take a lot of pride in my work.

My sites are purpose-built from the ground up. I don't use themes or cut corners. I spend a considerable amount of time staying up to date with emerging web technologies to ensure my sites are built in the most modern, future-proof way.

I'm a perfectionist and a minimalist. My design style is clean and contemporary with a heavy focus on user experience.

Performance is paramount. I used a tailored hosting environment and a content delivery network, meaning my sites load fast regardless of where you are in the world.

I work to a strict timeframe with multiple stages and targets, tailored to your project and budget. I only work with one client at a time, so you get my full attention.

Choose an experienced freelance design consultant

Design studios can be very expensive, with managers who shelter you from those working on your project. Similarly, many freelancers fail to understand the business aspects of a project.

As an experienced consultant I offer the best of both worlds and will create a website that will help your business grow.
